One fateful Easter Eve, while assembling a basketball hoop as a surprise for our daughter, I heard the faint cries of kittens in the distance. Following the sound, I discovered a litter of newborn kittens huddled under a truck—alone, with no mother in sight. I waited, hoping she would return, but she never did. Knowing these tiny lives depended on immediate care, I gathered them up and brought them home.
Uncertain of what to do next, I turned to my local Next-door community for guidance. That’s when I was connected to Jean—a compassionate soul dedicated to animal welfare. Upon reaching out to her, I learned she had a mother cat ready to give birth any day. With hope in my heart, I entrusted the kittens to Jean, and miraculously, the mother cat accepted them as her own. Unfortunately, despite all efforts, only one kitten survived—Sally. But Sally didn’t just survive; she thrived.
After several months of nurture from her adoptive mother, Sally returned home to us, filling our lives with joy. However, that joy was soon overshadowed when, following her spay procedure, something seemed off. Concerned, we took her for bloodwork, only to receive a heartbreaking diagnosis—Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP), a condition once considered a death sentence for cats.
Devastated but unwilling to give up, we turned once again to Jean. True to her unwavering dedication, she shared news of a potential treatment—a series of daily injections over the course of three months. While I had experience administering shots to dogs, treating a cat was a different challenge. I asked Jean if she could take Sally in during this critical treatment period, and without hesitation, she agreed.

Through Jean’s dedication and tireless care, what once seemed like an impossible battle turned into a remarkable victory. Sally not only survived—she reclaimed her vibrant spirit and continues to thrive to this day. Her journey is a testament to resilience, love, and the incredible impact of one person’s unwavering commitment to animal welfare.
Jean, you are an angel to so many of God’s creatures, a blessing to our community, and a true credit to humanity. Words cannot express our gratitude for everything you have done for Sally and countless other animals in need. Thank you for giving them, and us, a second chance at happiness.
