Leonard Geoffrey Wood
Mourning the loss of our co-founder
Leonard Geoffrey "Geoff" Wood completed his earthly journey and entered eternal life on July 1, 2026, in Lakeland, Florida.

Born on May 22, 1948, in Detroit, Michigan, Geoff moved with his family to Winter Haven, Florida, in 1958. He attended the University of Florida, where he earned a degree in Civil Engineering. During his time there, he was active in the student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Benton Engineering Council. He later earned a degree in Environmental Engineering.

Geoff genuinely loved his work. He began his career as a general contractor before earning his credentials as a professional engineer. Whether overseeing construction projects or solving complex engineering challenges, Geoff found deep satisfaction in creating things that would stand the test of time. Building and engineering were not simply his profession; they were his passion. He remained devoted to his work throughout his life, continuing to serve clients at Graham Aluminum until his final day.

Service to others was a defining part of Geoff's life. Early in his career, he was an active member of the Polk County Builders Association and served as its Vice President in 1978. He was also a longtime member of the Rotary Club. From 2010 to 2019, Geoff served as the spiritual leader and minister at Unity Church, where he found great fulfillment in helping people through difficult times.

After meeting his wife, Jean, this love for saving people led to a love for saving/rescuing animals in need. He and his wife, Jean, co-founded a 501(c)(3) rescue named Hilltop Haven, Inc. where he enjoyed time with the animals. He also contributed greatly to planning and developing the infrastructure and layout of the property to best provide for the animals' needs.

Geoff enjoyed cooking for the church congregation and later found equal joy in preparing meals for Jean while caring for their many beloved animals, especially Tarzan, his devoted canine companion and best friend.

During the final year of his life, Geoff built a dedicated building to house his cherished train collection. He looked forward to spending countless hours in what he proudly called "the train room," a place he built entirely with his own hands.

When he wasn't working, Geoff pursued interests that reflected his naturally curious mind. A lifelong train enthusiast, his fascination with model railroads began at a young age and continued throughout his life. He was captivated by everything from historic steam locomotives to modern rail systems. He enjoyed computer games, puzzles, and anything that challenged him to think. He also enjoyed cooking, fishing, creating stained-glass artwork, and golfing whenever he could find the time, though work often came first. Geoff also appreciated the understated wit of British humor, which perfectly matched his own quiet sense of humor.

Above all, Geoff treasured time spent with his family. He delighted in being with his children and especially his grandchildren, who brought him immense joy. He will be remembered for his inquisitive mind, steady character, generosity, and willingness to help others. His legacy lives not only in the buildings he designed and the projects he completed, but also in the family he cherished, the people he served, and the countless lives he touched.

Geoff is survived by his wife, Jean Wilkes Wood; his children, Jenniffer (Marc) Day, Sandra Mouton, and Michael (Heather) Wood; his grandchildren, Kara, Justin, Isaac, Alanna, and Michaela; his sister, Marjie Wood; his stepmother, Jane S. Wood; his stepbrother, Gregg Wood; his stepsister, Katie Wood; their children, Sydney Wood and Mekiah Wood; and many beloved cousins throughout the United States and Europe.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lynn A. Wood and Dorothy D. Wood.

Geoff was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed. His life was marked by faith, service, craftsmanship, compassion, and an enduring love for family, friends, and every life, human or animal, that was fortunate enough to cross his path.
