Our experience with Hilltop Haven has been amazing. Several weeks ago, we
began our search for a kitten. We were very specific in what we wanted in a new
fur baby. Our ideal kitten, had to be a female and had to be Orange or White in
color.
One evening, after traveling to Lakeland to look for our ideal kitten, I was given a
business card for Hilltop Haven from an employee at the local pet store. We
weren’t from the area, we live in Seminole County, which is literally 6 counties
away from where Hilltop Haven is located. If it had not been for that business
card, we probably never would have heard of Hilltop Haven, and we wouldn’t be
where we are today.
I communicated thru text with a woman by the name of Jean Wilkes and told her
what we were interested in. She sent me some pictures of some beautiful kittens.
I settled on one that I thought we might be interested in (a beautiful 6 ½ month old
orange female tabby), and we worked out a time for my husband and I to come
visit and meet the fur baby. Jean had also picked out three other kittens for us to
meet as well. Mind you now, we had to travel over an hour and a half for this
meeting. But as soon as we walked in the door, I saw those little eyes, and I fell in
love with Lucy! I said “yes, she’s the one”!
However, we had a dilemma, my husband and I were getting ready to go out of
town for two weeks and we would not be able to adopt Lucy and take her home
with us on the spot. Jean, without hesitation, said she would hold Lucy for us

until we got back. During that time Jean communicated with me daily sending me
pictures of Lucy so we didn’t miss a minute of her growth. Which I was so
thankful for! Jean told us that day the story about Lucy and her siblings and how
they were found on a construction site with their mother, soon after they were
born. Jean told me that there was another orange female as well, in the same
litter but that she had already adopted her out.
Lo and behold a week later, Jean messaged me while we were out of town and
said that the people who adopted the sibling, brought her back, didn’t want her.
Can you even imagine that? Jean asked me if we would be interested in her since
she was a littermate to Lucy. My husband and I, by no means were interested in
two kittens but how could we now take only Lucy without taking her sister Lilli?
We had never even met Lilli as she was not there when we met Lucy, but I now
know in my heart that Lilli was meant to be ours too.
We have had our new fur babies home now for a little over a week and what an
exciting time it has been. From the fun at watching them play together running
thru the house, to the loving snuggles that they each give us after they are worn
out from playing, they both have completely stolen our hearts, to say the least!
Jean has worked with us and given us direction as to several things as it pertains
to our new kittens since they have been home and I appreciate her expertise and
guidance with it all.
My husband and I would like to give a huge shout out to Jean Wilkes and
everyone at Hilltop Haven, for helping to make our family complete and thank you
for everything!
